Born in 1968 in Marrakech, Hicham Benohoud lives and works between Casablanca and Paris. After obtaining a fine arts bachelor’s degree, he joined the Marrakech Regional Pedagogical Center to teach the visual arts. He interrupted his teaching career to focus on his own work, and since 2001 has been represented by the Galerie VU in Paris. In 2004, he taught photography at the Fresnoy, National Studio of Contemporary Arts Tourcoing.

Throughout his artistic career, Hicham Benohoud has developed a photographic approach based on stage setting. His work has been frequently exhibited in Morocco and abroad. In France, his work was included in several Paris-based exhibitions at the Pompidou Center, the Palais de Tokyo, the Grand Palais, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. He has also taken part in exhibitions at the Aperture Foundation in New York, the Mori Museum in Tokyo, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, and has participated in international fairs such as Paris Photo, Art Dubai, Brussels Fair, Singapore Fair, Art Paris, and Photo España. Benohoud’s work has integrated prestigious collections such as the Palais Royal in Rabat, La Maison Rouge in Paris, the MuCEM in Marseille, the Rena Sofia Museum in Madrid and, most recently, the Tate Modern in London.

When I joined the jury of La Chambre Claire in 2014, I was able to measure the importance of such a program for photographic artists. At each edition, candidates have a serious and valuable opportunity to confront their work with a team of professionals and the public. The candidates invite us to discover their universe through their series of photographs which surprise us both by their diversity and by their originality. I pay tribute to the whole team organizing this competition for the colossal work and decisive for the future of a good part of our dear candidates.
I wish a long life to La Chambre Claire and to all its candidates and laureates.
